KUNSTHALLE

 

Museum Kampa


Museum Kampa is considered one of the popular attraction in Prague. The Jan and Meda Mládek Foundation aim to promote fine art and contemporary art to the public of Czech Republic and abroad. Kampa also provide educational programmes like other galleries, hoping to spread the knowledge of art. The architecture of the building itself is marvelling causing tourists to flock the place.


Programs and Events:

  • Vladimír Škoda: Mysterium Cosmograficum – Johanes Kepler

According to Skoda, "The sphere represents the entirety of the universe, individual bodies in the universe and Plato’s ideal body" This exhibition was minimalistic yet mesmerizing, some of the installations were even interactive.



  • Adolf Born: A Unique World

A Unique World is an illustrated book by Born, illustrations magical and enchanting. . "An unrepeatable world filled with secrecy, extracts of dreams, maybe a little bit of hidden terror” Personally, I am interested in the theme of fantasy and dreams, unfortunately was not able to see in person.



 

DOX


Dox, derived from the Greek word doxa, which means a way of perceiving things, an opinion, a conviction. Dox distinguished itself from other contemporary gallery as it refers to itself as "multifunctional cultural centre" by integrating current social issues fused with areas such as psychology, philosophy, history, sociology, political science, etc. Dox seem to focus on exploring the different perspectives of various social topic through different mediums of arts and literature.


 

Kunsthalle Praha


Kunsthalle Praha is a new space for arts and culture in the historical center of Prague. They offer an extensive range of exhibitions, educational programs, cultural and social events aim to gain a deeper insight on contemporary art internationally and in the Czech Republic. The institute seems to emphasize on the cultural aspects of arts integrated into everyday life. They also open up opportunities for people in the art field to get involved in their events through volunteering, research and even translations activities which eventually become the basis of exhibitions.

ARTIST - RUN GALLERIES

 

Tranzit


Tranzit is a network in central Europe with a polycentric structure as a collective of autonomous local units cooperating across various borderlines – between nations, languages, media, mentalities and histories. The organization explores the cultures that backdate to the 70s and 80s' totalitarian social structure and its progression through the ameliorative period of the 90s till today. Tranzit supports artists with residence programs, grants and summer academies.

Programs and Events:

  • Salzburg Summer Academy 2018 It is a symposium where teachers and students alike focus on art production, theory and education through the exploration of clearly stated questions.

  • Artist-in-Residence programme at Museums Quartier Vienna Tranzit network also offers residency programs mainly for artists from countries which it is established in. They aim to support contemporary arts, a perilous pursuit for the artists by providing the necessities for creators to focus on their respective domain for 2 months.


 

Display


An Association for Research and Collective Practice, a platform for a wider field of contemporary arts. They are interested in how artistic and research practices further the understanding and appreciation of the complexities of the world. They see themselves as researchers and organizers who seek alternatives to coexistence and cooperation as they believe that new forms of communication is necessary when faced with rapid social shifts

that have change human lives and their relationship, visibly or inconspicuously.


Programs and Events:

  • Taraneh Fazeli - Calling in sick ( APR 12, 2018 — 18:00 ) A communication workshop oriented around how the language ( linguistics and gestures )used around illness shapes the experience of it.

  • Matthew de Kersaint Giraudeau and The Bad Vibes Club - Working, Breathing, Feeling ( MAY 24, 2018 — 18:00 ) The Bad Vibes Club is a colloquy for research into negative state produced by late capitalist society. This particular workshop involved a film screening and a lecture on the idea of how emotions play within the private sphere and turn public, becoming a political tool.


 

Fotograf Gallery


The gallery initially intended as a space dramaturgically linked to the contents of the current issue of the magazine. Currently, it focuses on the field of artistic photography and how its contexts and media overlaps in contemporary art, in which photographic thinking is seen as necessary for seizing reality or the basis of means of conceptual and contextual an operation in which photographs are treated as a specific bearer of visual information.


Programs and Events:

  • Re * creation

The exhibition grasp the dual meaning of "recreation" as "recovery" and "rebuilding", reflecting on the relationship between production and leisure against the backdrop of the constant demand for stable growth, innovation and originality.


  • Festival Photographer

The gallery hosts an annual Photograph Festival, which is titled " No-work: job free"

in 2018. The festivals focus on the component of photography and the duplicity of images through the skills of local and international photographers.


 

PROFESSIONAL ALTERNATIVE SPACES

 

MeetFactory


MeetFactory is a nonprofit international center for contemporary art, established by artist David Černý in 2001. Similar to other modern galleries, they aim to bridge different genre of arts, including visual arts, music and theater by making the art scene accessible to the general public. MeetFactory is also well known for their residency program, for creating a platform for creative exchange between artists across the world.


Programs and Events

  • Kostka Gallery: Open Call for Exhibition Projects in 2018

MeetFactory provides opportunities for emerging artists active in various fields of arts to exhibit their works of art in Kostka Gallery through open applications which will be evaluated by the curators of MeetFactory. As for 2018 "Winter and Summer calls", the gallery seek artists who could thematically utilize the environment provided.

  • Someone Walking Around

"Someone who is walking around might be a flâneur – a perceptive observant of the world around them, and an introverted designer of their own microcosmos at the same time. In any case, they are an entertaining storyteller." Although there is not much information on archived exhibitions in the gallery, the brief description for this one was intriguing, as if unveiling the differentness inside a "quiet" mind.


 

Futura


FUTURA, known as the Center for Contemporary Art is a private nonprofit organization overlooking two contemporary art venues who aims to support both international and local artists with grant applications and residential programs in Prague. Based on the archived gallery of the website, FUTURA seem to have hosted mostly installation exhibitions.


Programs and Events:

Anders Grønlien: Do not go chasing the waterfalls.

This exhibition presents a fantastical world where nature and art blends as one. The artist explored the virtue of achieving one's dreams in a rapidly changing world, as he asked: "Is it better to withdraw into a subjective world, flee into the arms of nature and turn into its own?" Is he subtly addressing the theme of depression and mental illness?


 

ART SCHOOL

 

GAMU


The Gallery of the Academy of Performing Arts is a non-commercial space under the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. They aim to nurture young and emerging artists, especially the final and graduate students of the Academy. The gallery also hosts exhibition for local and international artists whose works are in various forms of modern and traditional media.


Programs and Events:

  • MEMORY PALACE

The concept of the exhibition was inspired by avant-garde art ideas, exploring the link between the controlled decision making of artists and their work. Structured as a imaginary place in the mind with mnemonic images.
